Emerging from the chrysalis
A September update (the real new year)
Since I last wrote in springtime, here are some things I've done:
moved to a new house in a new area
a lot of walking
closed down my membership community (RIP)
got face ache from smiling at people so much trying to make "a good impression" with the village people, then stopped doing that
applied for a few "proper" jobs (sometimes the idea of an alternative life is tempting, isn't it? Healthy to stay curious in my view)
had what I thought was a bug which ended up in emergency surgery followed - almost immediately - by the annual Cornish camping trip (ouch)
quit LinkedIn (could be temporary…)
started volunteering as a treasurer for the local parish church
signed up for a creative writing course
begun settling my two kids into two different schools (in different locations)
I’m still in a time of flux, personally and professionally, and what I’m finding incredibly helpful is having a daily writing habit and limiting brain input to quite an extreme level. I don’t read, watch, listen to or scroll the news, I don’t use social media and recently I even attempted a week without watching TV or reading. It was quite interesting (and hard).
You'll be able to read about this and more, here on the blog (they’re making a comeback so I hear, hello – early 00s). My promise is, I’ll be writing more regularly, because writing is both what I most try to avoid and what I want and need to do most. Funny how that happens eh?
I've found myself completely shunning non-fiction and only reading novels since moving house a few months ago. I miss the deep reading that only seems to come (for me, at least) when discussing books in a group setting (like at school, but without the pressure) so I'm starting a Book Club with my buddy, Lan. I'm unreasonably excited about it.
It's purely for fun and free. If you're a book lover, take a peek and join in if you fancy it.
